The Other Ones Foundation (TOOF) is an Austin-based nonprofit developing innovative solutions to the city’s homelessness crisis. The organization works in service of the “other ones” who have been marginalized, forgotten, or overlooked in society. Its overarching mission is to give homeless individuals access to a stable income which will then lead to a stable home. TOOF’s strategy is carried out through its pioneering Workforce First (WFF) program, where homeless individuals are paid $15 per hour to clean up public spaces, animal shelters, public art exhibits and subsidized housing. Instead of panhandling for money, homeless individuals have the opportunity to clean up the city that they live in while also earning a livable wage that allows them to eventually transition into a permanent job and stable housing.
