The majority of the Baylor Fall 2016 Class’s evaluators found their $11,500 grant to The Cove to be a good decision with a good outcome, but multiple students designated The Cove to be a good decision with a bad outcome. The Cove is a teen nurturing center designed to provide a safe space for students experiencing homelessness to access the resources they need to thrive. The grant was originally designated for the installation of an industrial kitchen. The organization opted not to go forward with this project because they were in a rental space and wanted to wait until they owned property before making that sort of investment. The grant was then designated for case management software, which ended up being far less expensive than anticipated. Ultimately, most of the grant just went to the general operation budget. Several evaluators were disappointed the majority of the grant money went undesignated.
