The majority (80%) of Vanderbilt Spring 2016 Class found their $22,109 grant to the Rocketown to be a good decision with a good outcome. However, 20% argued it was a good decision with a bad outcome due to internal hits that impeded the organization’s ability to use the funds effectively. Rocketown is a Christian music venue that hosts a variety youth enrichment events and programs. The grant supplemented their general operating budget. Since it was made, they served 31,876 youth and have continued to work towards the mayor’s office’s goal to combat gang violence in Nashville. They continued their 4-year record of having 100% of their high school seniors graduate from high school. Their overall program numbers also tripled over the last year.
