Public Advocates

Most of the Stanford University Spring 2017 Class found their $18,000 grant to Public Advocates to be a good decision with a good outcome, but a few students said the grant was a good decision with a bad outcome. Public Advocates is a nonprofit law firm and advocacy organization that challenges the systemic causes of poverty and racial discrimination by strengthening community voices in public policy. The grant was used to hire a full-time Project Director and to secure additional funding for the CarsonWatch platform, an initiative to stop President Trump and HUD Secretary Ben Carson from rolling back and undermining housing security.
