One Acre Fund

89% of the Texas Christian University Fall 2016 Class’s evaluation found their $10,000 grant to One Acre Fund to be a good decision with a good outcome due to its ability to create systematic change and the expansion of the organization. 11% found the grant to be a good decision with a bad outcome since the money was used for leadership development and pesticide use rather than directly helping farmers be successful. One Acre Fund supplies smallholder farmers with the financing and training they need to grow their way out of hunger and poverty. The grant was unrestricted and used for a variety of initiatives including pest control and leadership training. Evaluators stated that in retrospect it may have been better to restrict the grant to going directly to farmers, but the proven track record and success of the organization was enough to convince them that the grant was a good decision with a good outcome.
