Family Promise helps homeless families and children achieve sustainable independence by providing shelter, meals and support services to homeless families. The grant was used to partially alleviate the financial burden of necessary lighting renovations. The new LED lights use 25-80% less energy than the incandescent lights. This will help them save significantly on their electricity bill, which is currently $1,600-3,000 per month. The majority (78%) of Texas A&M University’s Spring 2018 Class found their $2,400 grant to Family Promise to be a good decision with a good outcome because they were able to fund an organization’s overhead costs and enhance their abilities in the long run. Additionally, 17% believed the grant was a good decision with a bad outcome, and 5% of students deemed it to be a mistake because the project was only partially funded and the organization did not seem eager to find the needed funding to complete it.
