The majority of Baylor Fall 2016 Class’s evaluators found their $2,500 grant to Family Abuse Center to be a good decision with a good outcome, and a few students designated the grant a good decision with a bad outcome. Family Abuse Center exists to serve victims of abuse and domestic violence through housing, support groups, and other aid. The grant was used to create a fund for paying clients’ court fees. This fund supported 16 individuals in filing for custody of children or divorce, getting birth certificates, applying for immigration, and other legal processes. Practically all clients supported by this fund were able to leave their abusers, likely in a shorter period of time than otherwise would have been possible.
